From Clean to Pristine: Renue New Mexico's Journey with the NM Minority Business Development Agency

Doris Monsalve, who co-owns Renue New Mexico with her husband Hector Monsalve, has built a thriving business over the past 18 years, establishing themselves as leaders in the deep cleaning and disinfecting services industry. Specializing in hospitality and commercial cleaning, Renue New Mexico offers comprehensive services, including carpet cleaning, floor care, window washing, and even mattress sanitation—essentially handling any cleaning need within hotels and commercial establishments.

Despite the company’s longevity and success, Monsalve acknowledges that running a small business comes with its challenges. “Eighteen years is a long time in this industry, and staying afloat hasn’t been easy,” she shares. To navigate these challenges and continue growing, Monsalve sought support from the New Mexico Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) about three years ago.

Partnering with the NM MBDA

Monsalve was introduced to the NM MBDA through her involvement with the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. She initially turned to the agency for guidance on creating a capability statement and addressing legal and operational needs. Reflecting on her experience, Monsalve highlights the invaluable support she’s received, particularly through the MBDA Spotlight Series.

“What I like most about the Spotlight Series is that it gives small business owners like me the chance to connect directly with larger companies and federal government representatives,” Monsalve explains. “It’s a unique opportunity to have direct conversations in a small, approachable setting.”

In addition to networking opportunities, the MBDA’s procurement seminars equipped Monsalve with the knowledge needed to pursue government contracts. Building on that training, Monsalve recently secured a cleaning contract with the City of Albuquerque.

Holistic Support for Business Growth

Monsalve is quick to commend the MBDA for its comprehensive approach to supporting small business owners. From professional development opportunities, such as photography sessions for LinkedIn profiles, to consistent communication about webinars and resources, the agency provides practical and actionable support. “Something as simple as professional shots can make a big difference,” she notes. “It’s one less expense for business owners and helps us present ourselves more professionally.”

Monsalve also emphasizes the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone to leverage the MBDA’s services. “I always say there are only two answers to a question: yes or no. If they can’t help you, they’ll guide you to someone who can. Taking that first step is crucial for growing your business.”

Inspiring Others to Seek Help

Through her journey with the MBDA, Monsalve has not only enhanced her business but also encouraged other entrepreneurs to seek out the agency’s resources. “I’ve met many people through the MBDA, and I always tell colleagues to stop by and see how they can help. Whether it’s social media, logo design, or capability statements, they’ll provide feedback and make your work better.”

A Thriving Future

Renue New Mexico’s partnership with the NM Minority Business Development Agency has strengthened its foundation and positioned the business for continued growth. With the MBDA’s guidance and resources, Doris Monsalve is confident about the future. Her advice to other business owners: “Take the risk and reach out. You never know what opportunities might come your way.”

Monsalve’s story exemplifies the impact of the NM MBDA in empowering small businesses to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and achieve long-term success.
